Growing up with the waves, not that I was the greatest swimmer or that I would never fear the big set coming from afar, looking back to the sand to see if there was still time to run there before the waves would catch me.
“Always respect the sea” - my grandfather, the greatest swimmer, used to say. So you just have to face the waves and when they finally come, enjoy it. The time you can reach the shore will come. But, in the end, you don’t even want to swim back to the sand.
The fear and the excitement feeds you. And this is the uncomfortable mixed feeling I started to carry with me when I left this sea behind to find others, in other shapes.
My work represents the self-discovery that happens every time I decide to search for a new reality. Stepping out of my comfort zone, putting myself out there without knowing what can happen; and then, grow from it. This is the Good of Discomfort.
The journey that I’ve been making comes out in a series of images that led me back home – to the sea of Portugal.
